They say the clothes make the person. While that may only be partly true, what you wear on moving day can be very important. You want to make sure that the clothes that you have on provide the appropriate amount of freedom of movement, protection and warmth. Here are some tips on picking out what to wear on your Newmarket moving day.
Start With the Shoes
You want to build a solid foundation so start at the bottom by picking the right shoes to wear. With winter upon us, it should go without saying that you want to keep the open toed shoes for the beach and have on good close-toed shoes. While you don’t need to have heavy duty work boots (not that they are a bad option, but you want to remain somewhat nimble), you should have on something that has some durability and flexibility to it.
At the same time you want to make sure that the shoes you are wearing are comfortable. Having on uncomfortable work boots can make for a long moving day with sore feet at the end. Opt for some good running shoes or hiking boots that give you plenty of room to move around while still having traction to handle stairs or wet spots.
Keep it Comfortable
There is no dress code for moving. You are going to be working, so you want to pick out clothes that you are comfortable in. If yoga pants and a workout shirt are your thing, then make it happen. If you are more comfortable in jeans and a flannel, then that is fine too. No matter what you choose to wear, make sure that you are comfortable in them. You don’t want to spend the day fussing with your wardrobe when you should be moving around boxes and carrying furniture.
Layer Up
Moving in the cold months can be tricky. You are going to go from being inside where it is warm to the outside where it can be potentially freezing. Having on warm clothes inside could have you breaking into a sweat that leads to some nasty sickness when the outside temperatures cool you down too quickly.
Wearing layers helps you to adjust to the varying degrees of temperature. You can take some of them off when working inside, then layer back up as you carry the boxes and other things outside to the truck. Just make sure to take the time to put them on and take them off when you get too hot or cold. Leaving layers on when you don’t need them, or having them off when you do, can be just as unhealthy for you as not having the right weather clothing on at all.
