There are few things more important during a move than your moving boxes. They are what you spend so much time looking at, thinking about and carrying around. After the move is done and you step back to consider the large pile of leftover cardboard, you may be wondering what you should do with it. Save them? Toss them? Try to sell them on the internet? Here are some thoughts about what to do with those leftover moving boxes from your Aurora move.
Size Matters
Your first decision is probably going to be over what boxes to keep. If you take a moment to consider, what are the most useful of all the boxes you have for storing things? The large ones are rather impractical for anything too heavy. The little boxes on the other hand are great for storing all sorts of things. Don’t waste the space for the large, appliance or even the wardrobe boxes. Hang on to the little ones for storing anything from books to knick knacks.
What About the Medium Ones?
So, you have gotten rid of the large boxes and stored away the small ones. This leaves you with an assortment of midsized boxes that may or may not jump out at you as to what to save.
Your next step should be to sit down and consider what you have that you need to keep in boxes. Are you storing odd sized seasonal items? What about seldom used kitchen appliances? Once you have figured out what you need to store, then pick the right sized boxes to store those things.
Once you have taken away every odd sized box that you think you will use it is time to head to the recycling bin. The rest of the boxes are really going to do you little good other than to clutter up your new home.
Now Take a Survey
All of the boxes you don’t need are gone. It is now time to survey the field. These boxes have all been through at least one move. More if you have bought them second hand. That means they are going to be showing some wear and tear. Their condition isn’t going to improve over time.
If the boxes have rips, frays or are starting to some fatigue then they aren’t worth saving them. Even dirty boxes might not be worth keeping, depending on what you are planning to store inside.
Don’t forget to smell the inside either. If you moved chemical cleaning supplies or spices in the box you may not want to go storing your seasonal table cloths in them. There is no reason to risk damaging things you like just to save a dollar or two on a box.
