Sometimes you just can’t get the schedules to match up. You need to move for a job or for family reasons, but you just don’t have a way to make sure that your new home is ready before your old home is packed up and sold. In order to bridge this gap, you may need to utilize temporary housing. Here are a few of the options that are available to you if you find yourself in need of temporary housing for you and your family.
Rental Homes or Apartments
One of the options that is available to you are rental homes or apartment. Many places can be rented on a month to month basis with plenty of room to keep your things, even if most of them stay in boxes until you find more permanent living arrangements.
Obviously, this choice is going to be used when you need a month or more in order to find more permanent housing. This can be a great option if you are moving your family to a new city but need to get a better lay of the land in order to pick the right school district or neighborhood to live in. Just make sure you are aware of any additional costs there might be with breaking a lease early, and avoid that by signing as short a lease as you can.
Extended Stay Hotels
Extended stay hotels are a good option if you need a couple weeks to a month (or two) of temporary housing. They are like hotels in that many offer maid service and sheet laundry, but they also have things you would have at home like a full kitchen with a refrigerator. Most also have onsite laundry for your personal belongings as well.
Extended stay hotels have no lease to sign and typically will let you stay anywhere from a few days to a week at a minimum. They are typically fully furnished and have all utilities included as well as offering extended cable and Wi-Fi internet access.
Regular Hotels
The highest cost option, you really only want to use a regular hotel for a few days or a week-long stay. Much more than that can become very costly depending on the hotel you have chosen to stay at.
Hotels come in a wide variety of costs and services that they offer. Some are the bare minimum of a bed and a bathroom while others can offer suites that have small dine-in kitchens with a separate living room and bedrooms. The cost associated with the hotel room usually reflects the services available.
