With winter just around the corner perhaps you’ve taken the time to clear out the backyard in reparation for the coming snow, or maybe you’ve tackled the task that is cleaning out the garage to make room for the cars over the winter months. Winter storage can be a hassle, especially if you have children with an abundance of outdoor toys are if you are an outdoorsy person that likes adventure over the summer.
Portable storage can be a great option to help create extra space for those summer items that need a place for the next few months. Just remember that some prep might be required for some of these items. Here are a few of the things that might need to be stored and what to do beforehand.
Patio Furniture: Your patio table, umbrella, chairs, loungers, etc. Things to keep in mind: make sure all articles are clean and dry – stains that have extra time to set in may prove impossible to remove come spring. Shake out cushions and the umbrella to get rid of any bugs.
Pool Equipment: Summer cover, pool toys, ladders, vacuum, etc. Make sure that all hoses are cleared and drained. Clean the ladders and thoroughly wash the cover. Let these dry completely to keep mold and mildew at bay.
Gardening Equipment: Lawnmower, weed whacker, garden hose, gardening tools. Things to keep in mind: again, make sure all tools are clean and dry (especially – helps avoid rust). Also, drain any excess fluid (gas, oil) from any machines to avoid engine breakdown. Make sure the hose is empty to keep it from freezing.
Camping Equipment: Tent, camping stove, dishes, sleeping bags. Things to keep in mind: air-out your tent prior to storage and make sure that it is totally dry to avoid mold and mildew growth. Clean any dishes to keep bugs or critters away.
Recreational Equipment: ATVs, dirt bikes, scooters. Things to keep in mind. These require some significant preparation pre-storage, so make sure that you find out exactly what each one needs. But with every one, make sure that any extra fuel, oil, flammable materials, etc. are drained. These can present a fire hazard in a confined space. Also make sure that they are clean and dry.
Get ready for winter by prepping and storing your summer equipment properly. Portable storage can save you a lot of time and hassle as far as finding the space.
