How often have you moved to a different home in your lifetime? Chances are it’s more than you think. In the United States, the census bureau actually asked everyone and the average they got is 11.7 moves in a lifetime.
When you think about everything that goes into moving house once, 11.7 can sound like a huge number. But it pales in comparison to how many ‘little moves’ you make.
A little move is one that’s not big enough to hire a regular moving company. You can easily make half a dozen little moves in a year. And if you think that number is high too, springtime is ‘little move’ season, so there’s a good chance you’ll be making a little move, like one of the following, very soon.
1. University Students Coming Home
If one or more of your children are in university, and especially if they graduate this year, you’ll have one or more little moves this spring. Those little fridges look cute in dorm rooms, but try muscling one into the back seat of a car.
2. Moving Things Into & Out of Storage
If you rent a storage unit for seasonal items, like garden furniture, it’s that time of year again. That time where you wonder whether you should rent a truck or try to figure out how to get everything into the SUV again.
3. Opening Up the Cottage
If not on May 2-4, then sometime this spring you’ll be heading up to the cottage or trailer with whatever you drive packed to the gills. And if this was the year you were going to buy new beds for home and move the old ones to the cottage… good luck packing for that one.
Little moves happen all the time. Some people actually buy a van or truck because they find they move stuff so often. And some people just call us here at Little Moves so they don’t have to worry about it.
