Many people will tell you that the worst time to move is in the summer. Especially in Ontario, it can be impossible to predict just what the weather will be like, and moving on a day that starts out at 30 degrees isn’t going to leave you with high hopes. But moving during the summer doesn’t always need to be a drag. If you are planning a move this summer, keep these moving tips in mind to help you beat the heat.
We know it can get super-hot when you are moving, but try as hard as you can to keep that air conditioner from working overtime. Your doors will be opening and closing – or remaining open – for extended periods of time, and you don’t want that first bill to reflect the rising temps. That being said, if you do plan to have access to the air conditioner if absolutely necessary, make sure you have all of your plans in place for hydro before moving day.
Keep in mind that certain things don’t handle a move as well in the summer as they do in the winter. Candles stuck in boxes in the back of a stifling hot moving truck or van will quickly melt, so make sure to keep them separate. Leather furniture can ‘sweat’ if it is wrapped in plastic, so avoid this if possible and try going with a furniture pad instead. Electronics can also suffer in the heat – CDs, videos, cassette tapes, etc. can warp, so keep those from the heat too. Plan ahead if you want to keep these vulnerable items intact and keep them out of the heat.
Keep lots of H2O on hand. Moving is hard work, no matter how you look at it, and when there is so much work to do it can be easy to forget how quickly the body becomes dehydrated with the physical output, not to mention the sun blazing down on you. Stay hydrated – the last thing you need on moving day to is have to deal with heat exhaustion!
Get someone else to do it for you! It might be easy to say that you will do it on your own, but it is also really easy to find a company who can do it all for you! From packing, to loading, to transfer, a reputable, experienced company can let you relax instead of melt. Just make sure that you do your due diligence and find a company with a solid reputation. And remember – those movers are hot too!
